Mike Bird is a seasoned business executive with 30 years of experience in timber valuation, forestry, timber harvesting, habitat enhancement, wetland conservation and restoration, and conservation revenue realization. In 1979, he founded Bird Forestry Services, Inc., then a traditional forestry consulting firm, offering services to private non-industrial landowners in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Bird Forestry conducts timber sales for private forest landowners, trusts and institutional forest land owners, and handles appraisal work for various landowners, including the U. S. Department of Agriculture, International Paper, Weyerhaeuser, Champion International, Temple-Inland, the Conservation Fund, and The Nature Conservancy.
Capitalizing on other natural resource opportunities associated with land management, Mr. Bird launched Silva-Tech/South, Inc. in 1989 as a vegetation management and reforestation business. Since its creation, Silva-Tech/South, Inc. has completed silvicultural and other land management treatments on more than 500,000 acres of land.
In 1994, Mr. Bird joined with Mr. Terry Anderson to create Advanced Ecology, Inc., an environmental consulting firm specializing in land and natural resource management. Advanced Ecology has been responsible for the preservation and/or restoration of thousands of acres of wetland habitat in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Current Advanced Ecology projects along the Trinity River are restoring or enhancing wetlands and providing material economic uplift for the current landowners.
Mr. Bird is active in several professional organizations and has served in leadership positions for the Association of Consulting Foresters, the Texas Forestry Association, and the Society of American Foresters. He is a member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, the Forest Landowners Association, the Texas Rivers and Reservoir Management Society, and Ducks Unlimited.
Mr. Bird graduated from University of Missouri – Columbia in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management.
